The Members

The No Smoking Day charity is directed by member organisations from across the health sector. These organisations have a constitutional role in the running and administration of the charity.

In addition we also have a number of supporting organisations that share our vision of reducing tobacco-related illness and death, and which provide advice or practical assistance in the delivery of the campaign.

ASH
ASH aims to preserve the health of the community; to advance the education of the public concerning smoking; to carry out or support research and communication for the benefit of the health of the community.

ASH is working to secure public, media, parliamentary, local and national Government support for a comprehensive programme to tackle the epidemic of tobacco-related disease.

ASH Scotland
ASH Scotland is the leading voluntary organisation informing and influencing tobacco control policies affecting Scotland. It works to raise awareness about the impacts of tobacco and the activities of the tobacco industry.

Core activities include: policy development, parliamentary affairs, community-based projects, work on tobacco and inequalities, providing an expert tobacco information service, administering the Scottish Tobacco Control Alliance, media work, training and evaluation.

British Dental Health Foundation
The British Dental Health Foundation is an independent charity completely dedicated to providing the public with the information they need to improve their oral health.
The Foundation operates the only free and impartial Dental Helpline in the UK (0845 063 1188) and hosts the most comprehensive oral health site on the World Wide Web.
It also runs the annual National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Awareness Week campaigns and uses its independent position to provide comments in the media on all dental matters affecting members of the public.

By working with community organisations, schools and the dental profession and involving government, industry and retailers the Foundation provides key oral health information and advice to millions of people every year.

British Heart Foundation
The British Heart Foundation is a major national charity which plays a leading role in the fight against heart and circulatory disease, the UK's biggest killer. It is the largest independent funder of heart research in this country.

The Foundation also plays an important role in education, both of the public and of health professionals, and in providing life-saving cardiac equipment and supporting rehabilitation and patient care.

British Medical Association
The BMA, the voice of the medical profession, represents all doctors from all branches of medicine all over the UK. About 80 per cent of practising doctors are members, as are 12,000 medical students and nearly 4,000 members overseas.

The BMA puts the profession's democratically reached views to national administrations and many other influential bodies. It is an independent trade union, officially recognised by government.

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the largest volunteer-supported cancer research organisation in the world. Formed by the merger of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and the Cancer Research Campaign in February 2002, its vision is to conquer cancer through world-class research.

With a dedicated team of scientists, doctors and nurses and an annual scientific spend of more than £300 million raised almost entirely through public donations, Cancer Research UK is working to cure cancer patients faster.

Cardio Wellness Charity
The Cardio Wellness Charity provides advice, support, counselling and education to the community at grass root level on coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, weight management, healthy eating, smoking and oral tobacco chewing.

Cardio Wellness runs tailor made smoking cessation services to some of the most deprived groups in England . These services are provided free of charge and run alongside existing NHS services.

Health Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland
The Health Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland (HPA) is a special agency of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS).

Its aim is to provide leadership, strategic direction and support, where possible, to all those involved in promoting health in Northern Ireland.

Its mission is: "To make health a top priority for everyone in Northern Ireland".

By working with others the aim is to shift the emphasis of modern health services towards prevention, protection and education, to reduce the need for treatment or rehabilitation and improve overall quality of life.

Marie Curie Cancer Care
Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, Marie Cuirie Cancer Care provides care to around 25,000 people with cancer every year, along with support for their families. The charity also has 10 hospices across the UK.

QUIT
QUIT is an independent UK charity that aims to help smokers quit. QUIT's range of services includes the Quitline, where callers can speak to a trained counsellor for friendly help and advice on how to stop smoking. QUIT also runs the Asian Quitline in six south Asian language; corporate health services; training programmes for health professionals; and the Break Free schools programme, which provides a variety of services for young people, including youth stop smoking groups.

Royal Society of Health
The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (RSPH) is also known as the Royal Society of Health (RSH). Since our foundation in 1876, our aim has been to promote continuous improvement in human health world-wide through education, communication and the encouragement of scientific research. The Society does this by promoting health to its Members and other stakeholders through events and publications, to members of the public through its qualifications and to the food industry by certifying the hygiene and packaging procedures within companies.

Ulster Cancer Foundation
The Ulster Cancer Foundation is Northern Ireland's leading local cancer charfity, dedicated to helping save lives and enhancing the quality of life of everyone affected by cancer.

The charity works with doctors, nurses, dentists, teachers and other professionals on training programmes and publications to improve knowledge of the causes, prevention, treatment and care of cancer.

Welsh Assembly Government Health Promotion Division
Prior to the establishment of the Welsh Assembly Government Health Promotion Division in April 1999, health promotion in Wales was led by a special health authority, Health Promotion Wales.

The Lifestyles Branch of the Health Promotion Division has responsibility for tobacco control, a key element of which is the organisation of No Smoking Day in Wales.
