Busy Organising Our Campaign! 10/03/09

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's taken me so long to update you - we've been so busy organising our campaign! No Smoking Day has slowly crept up on us, I can't believe it's so soon! So much to do, so little time...

We're constantly on the phone to designers, printers and promotional companies trying to finalise our flyers, posters, adverts and freebies in time. Our office is slowly getting full of boxes... see the photo - by Monday we wont be able to get in! We've been sending out flyers and posters to all of our pharmacists, practices, the voluntary sector, the council, leisure centres, libraries etc to let everyone know what's happening, location and times of the bus. We're also advertising in the local paper this week, so hopefully we'll have lots of people coming on board to find out about quitting smoking!

We've confirmed a local pharmacist to each venue to be onboard to sign people up to their service which is great. We've also managed to rope other colleagues into volunteering on the bus to help us out!

Our campaign starts next Thursday...fingers crossed it all goes well and that lots of people set a quit date on No Smoking Day!

Speak soon,

Gillian

Health promotion bus 06/02/09

Hello all,

How is everyone coping with the crazy weather?! It feels like I'm back at home in Scotland!

I'm Gillian from City and Hackney PCT's Stop Smoking Service. We're a relatively new team here at the PCT so this is our first time organising a No Smoking Day campaign- we're really looking forward to it but also slightly anxious as it's fast approaching! We had our first initial steering group meeting with stakeholders last week so everyone can have an input into the planning process.

Our campaign is going to involve a touring health promotion bus! We're having it for three weeks; the week before No Smoking Day, the week of and the week after, visiting nine different sites across the two boroughs.

On Wednesday March 11 we'll be outside Liverpool Street Station so come along and say hello if you're passing! So far, after numerous phone calls and emails with the bus company, we've finalised the bus exterior - check out the picture on the right!

We're still in the process of designing the interiors. We want to make the bus really interactive to grab people's attention so we're planning on having; stop smoking consultations, carbon monoxide monitoring, lung age testing, an interactive table - jar of tar, smoker's mouth, Lou-Wheeze, leaflets, giveaways and prize draws!

A local pharmacist will be on board to sign people up to their service there and then which will be great. We're also working with practices, children's centres and community organisations to let them know what we're doing and how they can help. It will be an exhausting three weeks but hopefully successful and lots of fun too!

Ok, I better go, that's the bus company on the phone again ......

Gillian
