2008 Campaign theme
No Smoking Day 2008, the 25th annual campaign, takes place on Wednesday 12 March.
As any ex-smoker will testify, quitting smoking can be a really tough challenge, a fact that this year's theme - The Great No Smoking Day Challenge - acknowledges.
The theme encourages individual quitters to become part of a bigger challenge and a national event. But it's designed also to support group quit attempts, and has been received enthusiastically by stop smoking groups that plan to integrate the challenge theme into their activities.
The Great No Smoking Day Challenge encourages smokers to stay focused initially on a manageable target - the first week. We hope the week-long challenge will help quitters develop the confidence to that they can go on to a smoke-free life.
And we'll do all we can to help all those rising the one week challenge go on to kick the habit for good. That's why our free motivational text message and email support is on hand to remind participants of the benefits of quitting, and the support that's available.
Research also shows that people are much more likely to succeed if they have the support of family, friends and colleagues. And we'll encourage that by giving quitters the chance to be sponsored for their efforts.
Participants can raise money for their favourite charity, giving them a more emotional commitment to the challenge. Sponsorship forms are available for download here.
