No Smoking Day 2008 - Theme

As any ex-smokers will testify, quitting smoking can be a really tough challenge. This year's No Smoking Day is an acknowledgement of that challenge.

Whether quitting alone or as part of a group, The Great No Smoking Day Challenge helps individual participants become part of a bigger challenge and a national event.

No Smoking Day is here to help those smokers that want to quit; research shows as many as three in every four smokers want to quit, and even more wish they'd never started to begin with.

The Challenge creates a supportive environment within which smokers can quit, with access to the expert help and support needed to succeed.

Many participants will want to quit for good, but we're also here for those that aren't quite ready to take that step yet. So this year we're inviting smokers to challenge one another to last a week without cigarettes. Those that rise to the challenge will have the chance to raise money to support their favourite charity, with moral and financial support from family, friends and workmates.

Participants can sign up to receive our quit packs, and free motivational text and email messages through the first week. We'll be encouraging all participants to seek out the support and help that's available, giving them the confidence to extend a smokefree week into a smokefree life.

Find out more about this year's theme in the Stopping smoking section.
